Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park
Exclusive to the Lake Lure Olympiad, this is the ONLY-TIME of year the park closes to allow athletes to compete and run up to Chimney Rock. Race to the Rock participants can go back into the State Park for sightseeing and hiking adventures FREE of charge anytime after the race on Sunday by showing their race bib at the ticket plaza. Spectators can enter the park for FREE prior to 7:30 AM to cheer on the athletes.
Dominate the Rock on a high note, literally! Starting at the Old Rock Cafe on the west side of Chimney Rock Village, the course makes a 22-mile loop. The timed mass start begins heading east along Memorial Highway. Following the winding roads of Bills Creek, Buffalo Creek and Buffalo Shoals Roads, the course takes you on a scenic trip passing Rumbling Bald Resort and down the mountain along the shore road.
Cross the iconic Lake Lure Dam and back onto Memorial Highway into Chimney Rock Village.
Enter Chimney Rock State park and Climb High up the switchback road ending at the base of the Rock with a stunning 75 Mile panoramic view of the Hickory Nut Gorge.

Event Site Rules:
The Village of Chimney Rock requires that all cyclists be inside the park gate by 9:30 AM. You have 2 hours to complete the first 22 miles before riding the last 3 miles up to the top of Chimney Rock. If you do not reach the park entrance by 9:30 AM, a race official will meet you at the front gate to remove your timing chip.
If you enter Chimney Rock State Park before 7:30 AM, parking is FREE! Otherwise, parking is also available on Main Street in Chimney Rock Village.
Exit down the mountain:
• All 25 Mile bikers MUST stay on the mountain until the last cyclist crosses the finish line. This is a safety precaution and no exceptions are made. The event is over by 10 AM.
• Cyclists can ride down the mountain in a group behind an official State Park Truck or put their bike on a bus and ride down or go down with a companion who has entered the park prior to 7:30 am.

Policies and Procedures:
In the event of inclement weather the event will be postponed in hopes the inclement weather will pass. If the inclement weather does not pass in time to complete the event safely in the original or modified format, the event will be cancelled.
If the weather passes and the event cannot be held within the permitted time limits, the event will be changed to a duathlon format and possibly modified in length to meet these restrictions
Every effort will be made to hold this event on time on this date. Should this event be cancelled due to an Act of God or other circumstance beyond the race directors control there will be no refunds, credits, or transfers.
**NO EXCEPTIONS will be made to this policy.
